Representatives from a raft of organisations came together to celebrate Volunteers’ Week with a picnic in Grantham.
The event was organised by Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service (LCVS) and supported by South Kesteven District Council and Anglian Water’s Keep It Clear programme.
Organisations that involve volunteers were invited to come together to celebrate the fantastic contribution they make.
David Fannin, LCVS chief executive, said: “Volunteers’ Week is a fantastic opportunity to thank all the volunteers who provide invaluable services to all our organisations and the community as a whole.
“Without them so many people would go without vital help and support and our communities would be less vibrant places to be.”
Organisations were invited to bring a picnic to Wyndham Park between 1pm and 3.30pm on Tuesday, June 2. Due to forecast high winds much of the event was moved into the bowls club building at the last minute.
Volunteers were presented with a certificate of ‘thanks and appreciation’ for the contribution they make.
Organisations in attendance included Grantham River Care, Wyndham Park Forum and South Kesteven District Council health walk team.
Anglian Water is working in partnership with LCVS to get the message of its Keep It Clear campaign out to the community. The campaign highlights the importance of putting waste such as wipes and fat, oils and grease in the bin instead of flushing it down toilets or putting it down the sink.
Anglian Water goodie bags were handed out at the event, including items such as sink strainers to help prevent people encountering the cost and inconvenience of blocked drains.
Collette Parker, Keep It Clear customer engagement manager at Anglian Water, said: “Supporting the work of volunteers is important to us here at Anglian Water because it helps to ensure communities continue to thrive.
“It also gives us the benefit of being able to engage with customers on vital environmental issues at grassroots level.”
South Kesteven District Council assisted with the organisation of the entire event.
